We have stayed true to this commitment, and reaffirmed it in this year’s Asempa Budget. From today, every land or property will be assigned a unique identifier. This will facilitate improved ownership data and unique identification of properties and persons. A proper addressing of properties will ensure efficient delivery of services for economic development.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana

Unfortunately, 4 months after the launch, only 2 Ministries have Digital Address out of 29 ministries/departments I checked. They are

  • Ministry of Communication
  • Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration

The 29 selected was just random. No preference. And there was no sign checking more ministries will change the pattern

Upon second thought, I said Ahh! Maybe they have but it’s not displayed on their website

So let me request it from mail.

One by one, I gathered their emails. Drafted a very simple mail. And send to them.

The mail was sent on 6th February, 2018.

Very simple mail. I titled it What is your Digital Address.

The email body goes like this

May I know your Ministry’s Digital Address Please.

I want to direct someone to the office. It’s urgent please.

Thank you

BTW, I’m Kaunda from Wamfie, Dormaa East, Brong Ahafo

The rest is my email signature

These are ministries and departments I sent to

Needless to say Office of the Attorney-Gneral & Ministry of Justice should learn to spell their name correctly…Because this has nothing to do with I put it to you-I put it to you, You guys don’t care.

It doesn’t look nice in google search. You are the face of Mother Ghana.

And whoever published this article should edit it

President Akufo-Addo Launches National Digital Property Addressing System

Unless I’m using wrong calendar, 19th October is NOT Wednesday

These are trivial issues though as Mr Kwaku Baako will say

Now, back to the substantive issue. The mails I sent!

3 Replied. Two were instant. One was hour later

  1. Education Ministry did so well. They were the fasted to reply. Was Instant!!!!

Unfortunately, the English was so big. I didn’t understand what they meant. And it was very long too. I needed just their Digital Address. Aba! Why this long reply. Or because your ministry have all the teachers in Ghana? So you can write better better English? 🙂

This is the reply they sent

h43.cyterrasolutions.com rejected your message to the following email addresses:
pro@moe.gov.gh (pro@moe.gov.gh)
Your message couldn’t be delivered. When Office 365 tried to send the message, the external email server returned the error below. This is probably due to a problem or policy setting on the recipient’s email system.
Check the error for information about the problem. The error might tell you what went wrong and how to fix it. For example, if it says the message was blocked due to a potential virus, try sending the message again without attachments.
For Email Admins
This error was reported by an email server outside Office 365, and if the sender is unable to fix the problem by modifying their message then it’s likely that it’s a problem that only the recipient’s email admin can fix.

Check the error for information about the problem. The error might tell you what went wrong and provide clues for how to fix it. For example, if it says the message was rejected due a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) issue then you’ll have to work with your domain registrar to properly configure your SPF record.
Check the error for information about where the problem is happening. For example, look for a domain name like contoso.com. This tells you which organization was responsible for the error. The recipient’s email server could be causing the problem, or it could be due to a third-party service that your organization or the recipient’s organization is using to process or filter email messages.
If you can’t fix the problem, contact the responsible party’s email admin. This could be the recipient’s email admin, your smart host service admin, or someone similar. Provide them with the error code and error message from this non-delivery report (NDR) to help them troubleshoot the issue.
Unfortunately, Office 365 support is unlikely to be able to help with these kinds of externally reported errors.

I couldn’t figure out the Digital Address in it so I moved on

2) The reply from Ministry of Youth and Sport was also quick. And wasn’t complex like the one above

Thank you for Contacting MOYS Ghana.

We will review you request.

Eiii! Digital Address k3k3 nso, you will have to review? hmmm. Today’s date is [25th February, 2018]. They are still reviewing it. Hope to get the feedback when they are done.

3) The final mail came hour later. From Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources

Good afternoon,
Please kindly use the direction on google map.
Thank you.

Great reply! respective tone!

But this is where the problem is. In my view, this mail explains why the other ministries /departments are not using the $2.5m Digital Address. They see Google Map better than the GhanaPostGPS. They don’t see what more GhanaPostGPS Digital Address will do that Google Map will not.

I’m still waiting on the rest of the ministries to reply.

I hope to hear from some of them next month. Hopefully.

I intentionally said SOME cos for sure, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration WILL NEVER reply.

I don’t even know why I sent to them.

On January 24th 2018 @ 19:09

I sent them a very important mail. Requesting for a document. No reply

Two days later, on 26th I sent a followup

Good morning.
Just a reminder of this mail please

Still no reply

Then on the 6th February. I sent another followup

I send this may on 24th January, Kindly lemme hear from you please. It’s urgent

Still still, no reply.

At least a reply to say

We have gotten your mail. We are reviewing it (as Ministry of Your & Sports did). OR Idiot go away, we don’t provide such document. I will be fine with any.

So where is the hope that they will Acknowledge this Request for Digital Address

Later I had to mail the documents to a friend in Accra. He printed and submitted them in person at the ministries.

We are in third week. Still doing followups at the ministries. No results.  The T&T and the time we wasting.  No one to hear us loud

  1. If the GhanaPostGPS is that valuable. Then whoever is in charge should fix the Digital Addresses on the sites of Ministries and Departments and Agencies. It takes less than 10 min to. The first time I tried registering, I got error and never tried again. Which is understandable since it was just around the launching days. I trust now those issues are resolved. Anything I go to the location I want to use. Will pick the coordinates.
  2. The emails at the footer of the ministry’s website are not for fun. Please use them. If it’s not convenient to access them directly in their clients ( Roundcube, SquirrelMail, etc) then please do email forwarding to any mail of your choice. Or whoever is in charge’s choice. People really try to get in touch using those mails. Whoever is in charge should please reply to. And if they are no more in use(as the case of Ministry of Education) then please fix the correct one. Somewhere mid of 2017, someone in USA tried reaching Ministry of Trade and Industry. It never worked. No one replied to the mails.
  3. Please, GhanaPostGPS is a mouthful-word. I think Asaase was way better a name for us to use in normal conversation. Fine, its good we know GhanaPost has a say in it. But it doesn’t flow well in our mouth.
  4. Do we need more education about the Digital Addressing? It looks so to me. Let’s educate ourselves to use our local products. We can’t continue to give everything of ours to google. What if we sleep, wake up to hear google say I’m abandoning Google Map. What do we do?
  5. I know of Tigo. They have both whatsapp and Skype contacts for enquires . It will be helpful if the ministries have it in additional to the mail.
